completing the additional information based on product

Identifying Who the target audience for my produce

The reason that the initial start up cost will be expensive because we will have to buy every thing new but after that it will be a lot more cheaper in the long run because we will get the money back throw advertising.

Today I have been making a detailed equipment list and taking about the purpose for why I need the equipment.

I have been making a table to make it look a lot more professional for the presentation

03/12/2014

I started my report today and made the introduction.

8/12/2014

1. In Manter the content would change from week to week because we would change the topic of what we would take about. One week it would be the best films next week it would be about the best music. Each week we would have a topic we would talk about and but before hand we would talk about any big news of the week. I do not think that we would interview anyone we could have a guess on an episode but I would no interview them. At the end of the podcast we would go throw some fan feed back.

2. As it is a podcast there would not be any phone ins as it would all be pre-recorded. We would use thing like face book ,twitter and email.

3. There would not be much music in the podcast. There would be if the podcast for that week is based on music. There would be a bedding song in the background if we talk about something like a song or soundtrack.

4. We would advertise small business in the sheffield area like clothing shop, restaurants and ant local events.

07/01/2015

I have been going throw my treatment for Manter and looking at what is go to put in the Prezi.
I will have to sit down with Jake and go throw how much of Manter we will be putting in and how long we will talk about it, and where it will be going in the main Prezi.

12/01/2014

I gave Jake my power point for Manter so he could put it in to the main Prezi. We also went thought the possible intro music and picked out.

LO1: Report comparing audio media products

Name: Harry Swallow                                                                                               Date: 08/10/2014
Unit 19 Planning and pitching an audio media product
In unit 19 for my creative and digital media course I have to research and the make a comparative repot based on my research on five different types of audio media product. Then research a further two on the audio media product that we wished to make. The media audio product that I did research on was Jingle, Podcast, Music Radio Show, Ident and an Audio Book. The Jingle I chose to do was Hallam FM’s, The Podcast I researched was The Weekly Planet, The Ricky Gervasis Show and Charlie sloth. The Music radio show was Big John @ Breakfast and the Ident I looked at was the MacDonald advert and the audio book.
The purpose
The purpose of The Weekly Planet is entertain, educate, inform and review the latest comic books, comic movies and comic book related TV and just anything that has something to do with comics. I know it is for the purpose of inform as the two host (James & mason) talk about the latest news from the past week. The most common at the moment are about the comic films Batman vs superman and the Avengers 2 Age of Ultron. They entertain by telling stories from there life or they know a comical fact about the topic they are talking about. They educate the listener by talking about obscurer fact or Trivia. This tends to be more for Marvel than any other comic book films. They also tend to review a comic film about two week after it comes out. This is good as it gives them time to let the film sink in and give a good opinion on the film. They also talk about other big block buster films that are not based on comic books but they always be on a film that is not based on real events or set in the real world.
In comparison the Ricky Gervasis Show is very similar as they also look to entertain the audience but The Ricky Gervasis does not look to inform the listener. It looks to educate the viewer because they talk about thing that have been talked about for hundreds of years. Such as when they ask Karl about what he thinks of a profound praise or when they talk about a problem with in the world and way that it can be fixed. I suppose that there is somewhat inform in there as they do talk about current events but it tends to be very obscure or very strange to the point where you have to question if it is real. It is a different type of entertainment The Weekly Planet is based on them making fun of what experience they have same as The Ricky Gervasis Show but the focus of their comedy is different. The focus of the Ricky Gervasis show is making fun of Karl and the Weekly Planet is based on the topic or making fun of what they say and if they don’t know what they are on about.
Something that is far different is the McDonalds Ident. The purpose for the audio product is to make a noise that will make you automatically identify with a product. The ident may entertain you but I think it is aimed at children because of the soft tone used. This is very different to the other because they are meant to entertain this does that as well to a point but what they what to do is sell a product. They what people to come and buy their food and the ident is aimed at children so that they make their parents take them.
Something that is similar to the Ident is a jingle for Hallam FM I looked at. The purpose of the audio media product is to say what radio station you are listening to and promote the brand. I would imagine it’s for people radio hopping.
The purpose of big john @ breakfast is to entertain and informs. I know it’s for that purpose because Big John all ways try’s to make you laugh. He does this by making fun of the people who ring up. Not in a mean way he makes fun of their story’s when he ask for the listener to come on and talk about your experience.

The last thing that I will talk about are audio books. Audio books is an audio media product that is meant to entertain. The audio book was made to help blind people. It is most commonly used now for drivers to listen to something when they are on long drives. Depending on the book you choose it can be entertaining and informative. There is a narrator that does the voices and some time they have multiple people doing the voices.

Form and style
The form of the podcast The Weekly Planet is informal as they talk in an informal way as they swear and use slang. This is similar to the radio music talk show Big John @ Breakfast as they are also informal but do not swear as it is on early morning and would not be child friendly. They are in formal for a different reason to Big John @ Breakfast Big John does it so that they will engage their listener’s more. They do this by talking in their normal Yorkshire dialect. The podcast and music radio show are similar but not the same. The podcast would all be the same. The ident on the other hand is very different to the other two audio media products. The Ident does not have a form as there are just three words that are said “Were loving it”.  It is so much different because there is so little to it, there is not any dialects to speak of and the voice changes depending on which country you view it in. The jingle is pretty much the same. The Hallam FM jingle is pretty much the same as the Ident but the purpose is different. The audio book is very varied as it heavily depends on the book that is being read. If the book is something like an autobiography it will depend on the person and the character of a story. There is no way to tell without going over a specific book.
Content and meaning
The content of The Weekly Planet is they start off with their theme tune then they go to an introduction. The denotation for the intro sets the overall tone for the podcast. It makes me think that it is very informal from the first 20 seconds. They then go on to the news for the week anything to do with comic and films. They then go on about the topic of the week and they review any new films. They then go throw there fan mail and anything they have to read or reading are going to read and something that they recommend. Then if anything that was talked about earlier like a song are a part from a talk show it would be played now.
A Macdonald’s ad will start off with some music and then they talk about any offers that they are starting or just advertising there food. Then they have their iconic catch phrase and music “Am loving it”. The catch phrase that is said is said by a woman. She has a very soft toned voice. This is so it will appeal to small children more as they would like the voice.
The Hallam FM jingle has just music and the words Hallam FM. It is being said by a man. The connotation for this is rather hard as it does not fit with much. The age of the man is about right but the dominating gender for the radio station is female but the person is male that is odd.
Frequency
The Weekly Planet is aired every Monday the time is different sometime just be for 12:00AM. This is because it is a podcast and does not have a set air time, but they tend to try and set their air time the same every week. Big John @ Breakfast show is aired every day but weekends. The show is on from 06:00AM till 12:00PM. It is on all the time because it is the most popular show on Hallam FM. The MacDonald ident is on every other set off adds on radio station like Hallam FM and Capital FM.
Target audience
The target audience for the podcast of the weekly planet is anyone who like film, TV and comics. They wold be over the age of 18 and below the age of 37. They will be most likely all male because of the topics they talk about. The target audience for Big John @ Breakfast is every one in south Yorkshire. RAJRA say that the gender that listeners in more female, it was 55% women. The social grade that had the biggest reach was C2, D, and E. They are also the number one radio station and show in the south Yorkshire. The target audience is anyone who listeners to Hallam FM. That would be primarily females. There would be about 520,000 a day who would hear the jingle. According to RAJAR. The target audience is everyone. As they are trying to get everyone to go to McDonalds but the aim is trying to get the younger people in as they are the ones who are interested in fast food the most. Like the other thing the audio book will change target audience depending on the book.

Genre
The genre of The Weekly Planet is informative and entertaining. Big John @ Breakfast I an entertaining and informative radio show that plays modern contemporary music. Hallam FM is at the same audience as Big John. The Macdonald’s is aimed towards children and young adults.

Production process

The post-production process is similar for both the podcast and radio show. They both would have to line up any pre-recorded audio such as music or clips from an earlier show. On the ident and jingle or also similar. They both will have had a short production process the ident is about 20 seconds and the jingle is even shorter. They would have had to get a studio to record the voices and the music. Hallam FM would have had to make a cart wall beforehand. The audio book pre-production is finding a voice actor and hiring a studio. None of the audio media products use profanity but The Weekly Planet podcast as that is the only one that is not linked to a big commercial brand. NONE of the audio media products use racism, sexism or anything that could be taken in an offensive way. This is because of the Ofcom guidelines. All of the audio media product must avoid slander or defamation or face legal proceedings. All but The weekly planet would have rating under 18 as that is the one that has profanity.  The Weekly planet does not go over adult theme as the topic are always on light hearted themes. Because of Ofcom regulations, when a production meeting is held they would have to address the compliance for their audio product. This they would have to look at is if whatever they are making could be consider raciest or sexiest. They would to make sure that there was no profanity used. Anything that could be deemed offensive can be removed from broadcast until it meets Ofcom guild lines. Another thing that they will have to look at is if anything that is said could be deemed slander or defamation otherwise they could face legal proceedings. Things such as budgets, script and live interviews would be planned in pre-production. They would have to seek for permission for music so that they do not brake copyright law.  This is mandatory for commercial radio stations like BBC.  This may be very different for community radio as that would be ran by volunteers.

LO 1: Analysis a radio talk show

Big John @ Breakfast

The purpose of big john @ breakfast is to entertain and informs. I know it’s for that purpose because Big John all ways try’s to make you laugh. He does this by making fun of the people who ring up. Not in a mean way he makes fun of their story’s when he ask for the to come on and talk about you express.

This audio media product of Big John is a music radio show. It gives the audience information on the local, regional, national and globe news. There three host Big John, Jamie’s and Jeannine. They talk very informal and in Yorkshire accent. This connotes the host are from within the south Yorkshire region. A lot of the comparison they have are something to do with a conversation that they have had early. A good example of this is when Jeannine was going to get married in a couple of day. So Big John as a joke asked everyone how had a bad marriage and got divorced very quick call in and tell there story.

The audio media product is a music radio show. This radio show delivers pretty much every type of audio media podcast but podcast. They play a jingle all the time, that is a man saying Hallam FM. They play about five indents per set of adverts. The indent’s are for a wide range of product from food to cars. The theme of their show is very family friendly as the show is on when parent will be taking their kids to school. There conversations are on the new and thing that have happened to them and what was on the TV.

The show try’s to influence the listener in to buying products and visit some establishment. It also tries to engage the listener by talking about thing that will have happened to the listener. Like when they talk about when their wedding day going wrong. They do this to make a connection with the listener.

The genre that Big John @ Breakfast belongs to is entertainment and informative. I know this because they always try to make the listener laugh by making fun of each other and some of the people who call in. Sometime Big John will make an innuendo but it is rather clean and nothing over the top so that someone would be offended. The informative comes in to it because they talk about the wealth, traffic and news. The news they cover is local, regional, national and global.

The target audience for Big John @ Breakfast is every one in south Yorkshire. RAJRA say that the gender that listeners in more female, it was 55% women. The social grade that had the biggest reach was C2, D, E. They are also the number one radio station and show in the south Yorkshire.

The show is on every day between the times of 6 to 12. It’s on every day but the weekends. It is on such a high amount because of how popular it is.

There are lots of pre-recorded parts in the show. Such as different shows segments form different Hallam FM shows, news and parts of their own show. The would use a cart wall for their adverts and music collect.

LO1: Analyzing podcasts

Charlie sloth

The purpose of the Sloth is to entertain the listener, to show the listener the new and best grime music.

Its form is that of a Podcast. It is a very informal and has a chatty manner. The mode of address for this is peer to peer; this is due to how informal it is. It also to do with the music that is player. As the main style of music is grime they will act in the manners stated before, as it is a convention for the type of people who listen to grime

The show consists of grime music and news.

The Podcast try’s to influence the listener into liking and disliking what the Sloth likes.

It is music Podcast with forces on Grime music.

The target audience is males between the ages of 15 and 30. This is because grime is somewhat of a new genera so people above the ages of 40 will not like it as it is vastly different from there normal music.

The podcast is about an hour long give are take. It is on every Friday at 5 PM

It is made during the radio 1 xstra. It is then made audible for download on the BBC website and I tune

The Ricky Gervais Show

The purpose for the podcast is to entertain the viewer and to talk a little about their self’s. I know that it is to entertain as they talk about thing that they know will get a laugh or of witch Karl will talk about some wired thing that has happened to him.

It is a podcast based on the conversation of the three hosts Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington. They are mainly a comedy but have odd news segments like monkey news where they talk about the most recent events with in the monkey world. Most of the monkey news is just Karl tell a story about a monkey that he says is true but the story it’s self if very unbelievable.

The podcast consist of the rambling conversations of the hosts. Their conversation does not stick to one topic from day to day there topics from the Greek empire to Karl’s Saturday day when he used to live a block of flats. They do not have the Idents and adverts. They do have a jingle for the monkey news and look what’s he’s written down again.

The denotation of the jingles. All of the jingles are about five seconds they are very similar in that they there are just Ricky screaming the title. I don’t think that there is much connotation just seems to be there to split up the show. I think that it does not influence or engage the listener it is just there for a joke nothing else.

It is comedy with silly news elements. I know this because they talk about things so that they can get Karl to talk about it in his wired way as his outlook on life is very odd.

The people will be listening to the podcast will be fans of the show like the Office and Extras as Ricky and Stephen writers of them shows. So whatever they say it will be in the same area of hummer. I would say people between the ages of 18 – 55. I do not know if the gender with the higher view count. The information I found of from RAJAR is that around 9.5 million people listened every week. Most people listened in the evening and 1/3 listen to the episode again.

The podcast has a new episode every week. I couldn't find the day it was uploaded as it was last aired a very long time ago. I would not say that there is anything significant about the frequency of witch the show was aired.

I could not find any information on how the product was produced. There are no pre-recorded part to this podcast.

 The weekly Planet

The purpose of The Weekly Planet is entertain, educate, inform and review the latest comic book and comic movies. I know it is for the purpose as stated before as the two host (James & marsh) talk about the latest news from the past week. The most common at the moment are about the comic films Batman vs superman and the Avengers 2 Age of Ultron. They entertain by telling stories from there life or they know a comical fact about the topic they are talking about. The educate the listener by talking about obscurer fact or Trivia. This tends to be more for Marvel than any other comic book films. They tend to review a comic film about two week after it comes out. They also talk about other big block buster films that are not based on comic books but they all ways be on a film about that not based on real events.

The audio media product is a podcast. The podcast is very informal as they tend to use profanity. This tells me that they are people from a common family. I would say that this works well as a podcast but would not work as a radio show
1. Because the profanity
2. They go off topic for long periods of time.
A normal Podcast would not use as many profanities as they do.
This is because they are not linked to any big conglomerate.

There is new, personal opinion, reviews. All the content in based on comic books. As this is a very low key podcast there is no Idents as they are not connected to some big company. They have two jingles. Both made by fans. The opening jingle is a very good representation of the show as it is made to make you laugh. There are no Idents.

The denotation opening jingles for the show are made in a joke manner. The connotation I think is to show the listener the overall feel for the Podcast. The two host conversation are always on the topic of comic book or comic book based things. They do talk about thing from the 1980’s every now and again. This was the time they would have been children. I think that this is one of the reasons that they are as popular as they are from the same background as all of their audience. There is no music, Guests or adverts. They have been doing there podcast for about a year and a half and have never had a guest or music. They had one advert for three or four episode they had audible.

The audio media product is a podcast I know this because of that you can listen to it on the internet at any time and download it. It is in the genre of entertainment. I know this because the host are funny. I don’t mean there just funny they are unintentionally funny and deliberately funny. I would also say that there is a news genre as at the beginning of every episode they talk about the news for comic book and there accompanying other medias.

The target audience for the weekly planet is people in between the ages of 18 – 35, Most likely male. Their demographic would be gamers and others into comics and people who like comic book base movies. As the podcast is from Australia and not globule popular there is no information about it on RAJAR.

The podcast has a new episode every week on Monday but the time it is uploaded varies but it tends to before 12:00AM. The one thing I could say about the frequency is that they have never missed an episode.

I could not find any information about how the podcast is produced but I do know that the why that you can consume it is by signing up to I tunes and downloading it from there. There are some part of a couple of episode that are pre-recorded like when it is the song to the intro of a TV show or if it is a line from a film.

Big John@Breakfast

The purpose of big john @ breakfast is to entertain and informs. I know it’s for that purpose because Big John all ways try’s to make you laugh. He does this by making fun of the people who ring up. Not in a mean way he makes fun of their story’s when he ask for the to come on and talk about you express.

This audio media product of Big John is a music radio show. It gives the audience information on the local, regional, national and globe news. There three host Big John, Jamie’s and Jeannine. They talk very informal and in Yorkshire accent. This connotes the host are from within the south Yorkshire region.

 Hallam FM

The purpose of the audio media product is say what radio station you are listening to. I would imagine it’s for if you were radio hopping. I know it for this purpose because there would not be many reasons for using it.

It is a Jingle for the radio station Hallam FM. You will know this as the jingle is just the name Hallam HM.

The audio product content has some backing music and a man saying the Hallam FM. I do not think that there is any relevant meaning behind it as if it was meant to represent then audience then way is it not a woman.

If there is a meaning it is very hard to find as there is no easy meaning to find.

There is no genre because the jingle is so short is about 5 seconds long.

The target audience is anyone who listeners to Hallam FM. That would be primarily females. There would be about 520,000 a day who would hear the jingle. According to RAJAR.

The jingle is play about every hour.

The backing music would have been pre-recorded and there is a sound effect on the mans voice.

 McDonalds

The purpose for the audio product is to make a noise that will make you automatically identify with a product. The ident may entertain you but I think it is aimed at children because of the soft tone of it.

The product is an ident. It is always used at the end of an advert to promote the brand.

The advert starts off with some sort of offer or some type of food that they are selling. The voice of the narrator is a young man or woman with a very smooth relaxing voice to influence the listener in to going to McDonalds. Then goes to the ident witch is a group of women using a cappella to make the brands ident.

The denotation for this ident is a lightly toned group of people singing. I think that the connotation for this is to be more appeling for a younger listener as it is something reminiscent of a little kids TV show intro. So it would engage with a younger listener. I think that young adult go to McDonalds more than any other age group so they may have stuck with this ident because it would be familiar and have somewhat of a nostalgic feeling behind it.

The genre of the ident is informative as it tells you the deals and new food on sale.

The target audience is everyone. As they are trying to get everyone to go to McDonalds but the aim is trying to get the younger people in as they are the ones who are interested in fast food the most.

McDonalds tends to be on every set of adverts on radio station like Hallam FM and Capital. Some time it has been two time per set of adverts but this is very rare. McDonalds has a very large budget so they have the funds to have such a frequent.

The people behind the production was Heye & Partner. The ident is on Radio and TV. They use the same audio track on the TV version but there is the visuals
